As winter training comes to an end, the Cumberland Valley High School boys lacrosse team is preparing for a new season filled with high expectations, young talent, and a renewed focus on competing at the highest level. Despite graduating six seniors last year, players say the program’s culture of hard work and accountability remains strong as the team looks to build toward a championship run this spring.
Player Tobey Shah believes the foundation set by past leaders continues to shape the team’s identity.
“Since my high school career began, our coaches and captains have instilled confidence and a work ethic where we build each other up and push each other to get better every day,” Shah said. “If we keep these principles as the base of our game, we should expect to do very well this year.”
While this year’s roster is younger, Shah described it as talented and full of potential, with underclassmen stepping into larger roles after last season’s graduating class. He added that the team is especially motivated within Mid-Penn competition, pointing to a matchup against State College as one player has circled on the schedule after last year’s lone conference loss.
Adapting to new roles may be the team’s biggest early-season challenge, but Shah sees it as an opportunity rather than a setback. With a mix of experienced leaders and emerging players, the Eagles hope their versatility will strengthen the lineup as the season progresses. Ultimately, Shah said success would mean capturing a Mid-Penn Championship and making a deep postseason run, something the program has been working toward for several years.
