As the second semester unfolds, the grip of senioritis tightens, challenging even the most dedicated students. However, seniors are not passive victims of this end-of-year slump. Instead, they're actively employing a range of coping mechanisms and motivation strategies to stay engaged and focused on their goals.
Two senior students, Ogbonnaya Ekezie and Chelsea Coburn are both ranked top 10 in their class. They were asked what methods they plan to use as the second half of the year comes around.
"I’ve felt the pressure of maintaining constant drive, motivation, and effort, but as I continue on, I find myself pushing forward not for the prestige or grades but rather because it’s what I learned to do" Ekezie said. “Over time, with continual effort, working becomes a habit, and for anyone following this, you’ll surely find success alongside it.”
By making an effort and driving a habit, success is likely, and is a great statement for any seniors struggling to keep pushing themselves.
In addition to goal-setting, many seniors find motivation through social connections and extracurricular involvement. "Being part of clubs and activities keeps me connected to my friends and the school community," Coburn said. "It's a great way to stay positive and energized, even when I'm feeling burned out."
By surrounding themselves with supportive peers and engaging in activities they enjoy, seniors can combat the isolation and boredom that often accompany senioritis.
