Cumberland Valley students write messages of encouragement for cancer patients through the American Cancer Society Club’s ongoing outreach project.

“For many patients, even a small note can remind them that they’re supported and not alone,” said Kavish Patel, president of Cumberland Valley’s American Cancer Society Club.

This month, Patel and other members gathered in the LGI to write heartfelt letters for cancer patients, helping to foster strength, hope, and motivation for those fighting the disease. The club meets one to two Mondays or Tuesdays per month, drawing around 25 participants each time.

The handwritten letters will be sent to Hope Drive in Baltimore, an organization that distributes messages of encouragement to cancer patients across the country. Some will also be shared with local outpatient centers, primarily those conducting regular chemotherapy treatments.

“Our goal is to help reduce the emotional burden that patients feel during such a hard time,” Kavish said.

In addition to writing letters, members discussed ways to earn volunteer hours through community service and fundraising efforts in support of the American Cancer Society’s broader mission.

With compassion and dedication guiding each meeting, the club continues to prove that even a few thoughtful words on paper can make a meaningful difference for those facing one of life’s toughest battles.
