Drew Bretz, a junior at Cumberland Valley High School and captain of the cross country team, has led his teammates with disciplined determination all season.
Reflecting on his performance, Bretz said, “I feel very proud of my performance up until this point. Every race this year had a purpose and I believe I lived up to what I needed to do in almost every race.”
Now, he is setting his sights on a personal goal he has yet to achieve: qualifying for states as an individual. “I feel optimistic about my chances of going to states,” Drew said. “My coaches believe I’ve adequately prepared for this race and that if I do as I’ve been coached to do I can make it, but it will take a lot of pain to get there.”
As the team prepares to peak at the district meet, Drew said, “I think Carlisle will be our toughest competitor…they will likely have 5 runners in the top 30.”
Through his focus, leadership, and hard work, Drew continues to inspire his teammates while pursuing excellence for himself and the Cumberland Valley cross country team.
