Fresh off their 2024 Class 4A state title, the Cumberland Valley boys soccer team has stumbled to a 1-4-1 start. Still, with veterans like Lex Radosavljevic, Jack Anderson, and Chayse Snyder back on the pitch, head coach Matt Billman believes the Eagles can regroup and chase another deep run.
“Our motivation is to prove ourselves, compete for wins, and keep improving each week,” senior Luke Miligan said.
The defending champions dropped their opener 2-0 to Emmaus, followed by a 3-1 loss to Chambersburg. A 7-0 setback against St. Ignatius followed by a 1-0 loss to J.P. McCaskey left the Eagles searching for answers before they battled Hershey to a 1-1 draw. The boys broke through with a convincing 4-0 win against Carlisle for their first victory of the season. Last week The Eagles were neck and neck to Central Dauphin before a late goal, capping the game 4-3 CD.
It’s a far cry from last fall, when Cumberland Valley surged through the postseason to capture both the District 3 and State crowns. But with key veterans back in the lineup, the Eagles remain focused on defending both titles.
While the start to the season hasn’t mirrored last year’s championship run, the Eagles aren't hitting the panic button just yet. With experienced leadership and a proven coaching staff, Cumberland Valley has the tools to turn things around. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how this battle-tested squad respond and whether they can once again rise to the occasion when it matters most.
