Cumberland Valley High School welcomessocial studies teacher Mr. Conor Hoffman fromt CV9. He’s excited to be back with some familiar students.
“One of the main reasons I wanted to move to the high school was the chance to teach some of my former students again,” Hoffman said. “Plus, the high school feels like a real community with so many clubs and activities.”
Hoffman is already noticing the difference in teaching older students: “I’ve certainly heard fewer ‘skibidis,’” Hoffman said. “High schoolers can be harder to motivate, but there’s also a lot less babysitting—and it’s easier to connect with them as they figure out who they are.”
This year, Hoffman is especially excited to bring National History Day to the high school and hopes lots of students will get involved.
“National History Day is a nationwide competition where students research historical topics and present their work through papers, exhibits, performances, documentaries, or websites. Top projects advance from school to regional, state, and national levels, with this year’s regionals held at Messiah University on February 28, 2026. Along the way, students are interviewed by historians and judged on both content and presentation, building skills in research, critical thinking, and communication,” Hoffman said.
